Other maxima: 4,000+ on 29 October 1983 (mob) Hamlin Beach SP. (LG, November 1983) 4,582 on 2 November 1997, Hamlin Beach SP. (Ewald and Sherony, p. 65) 5,000 on 5 November 1983 (Lloyd, Sunderlin, Colsman) Webster. (GNR) 5,000 on 27 November 1966 (Doherty, Miller) Charlotte. (GOS, April 1998) Smaller numbers regularly reward winter birders by coming into Irondequoit Bay outlet and the mouth of the Genesee River at Charlotte, allowing closer range observation. Conesus Lake also attracts migrants and winter visitors, with a maximum of 150 on 14 December 1975. (LG, January 1976; Fox, p. 33)
Spring: In most years had departed by 7 May, with a late departure date of 10 June, according to the Monroe County annotated list (1985). “We do not see a spring buildup so the lake does not serve as a staging area for coastal migrants moving north (Ewald and Sherony, p. 64).” Twenty on 10 April 1979 (Clarridge) were at Mendon Ponds, rather than the usual lakefront locations. (GNR)
Spring maxima: 1,000 on 1 March 1994 (Symonds) at Hamlin Beach SP. (GNR) 1,200 on 23 March 1995 (Symonds) Hamlin Beach SP. (GNR) 2,000 on 25 March 1982 (R. Dobson) off Payne Beach. (GNR) 1,500 on 27 April 1989 (P. Spindler) lakeshore. (GNR) 500 on 15 May 1966 (McNetts, Sunderlin, White) off Oklahoma Beach, a good count for so late in spring. (GNR) Summer: A very late straggler 4-21 June 1980 was at Braddock Bay (KB30: 228); another 16 July 1981 (Davids, Reister) was along the west lakeshore. (KB31: 238) Reports falling between the record late dates for spring and record early for fall show up in the noteworthies for only five of the last 23 years. However, most were from 2000 on, reflecting increased midsummer observations at Hamlin Beach SP by Bill Symonds. His observations include 2-4 all of June 2002 and singles on 26 June 2005, 25 July 2000, 20 July 2003 and 20 July 2005. Another on 1 August 1987 (Cass, S. Taylor, Griffith) was at Braddock Bay. (GNR)
